The Oregon-based Ohio Monarchs Gold summer collegiate team was 32-11 through Monday and is tied for first place in the TABF and in the Tri-State League.
The Gold team will try to defend its 2008 College World Series championship at this year’s LineDrive Sportz National Amateur Baseball Federation College World Series presented by Buckeye Cable Sports Network August 6-9.

Coach Ed Mouch's squad will be without the services of Curtice native Ben Kauder during the World Series. Kauder, a 5-11, 165-pound right-handed pitcher/outfielder, underwent Tommy John elbow surgery last Wednesday.

The Gold team swept both the Ohio Orioles and J L Thomas with awesome offense and strong pitching this past weekend in Cleveland. Gold won the first game against the Orioles 4 to 2 and shut them out 9 to 0 in the second game on Saturday. On Sunday they battled J L Thomas to a 15-14 win and came back to an 8 to 5 victory in the second game. These four wins moved Gold into 1st place in the Tri-State League.
In the competition against the Orioles in the first game Cory Hornyak pitched an impressive complete game. Hornyak had 10 strike outs with only two walks allowing only 2 runs and 5 hits, and this is in addition to his home run blast on offense. Gold tallied 9 hits to earn the 4 runs. Leading the offense was Eric Yunker (2-3) and Casey Winckowski (2-4) with a double. The other hits were by Boomer Moulton, Colin Meinzer, Ryan Mouch, and Tristen Peffley.

The Ohio Monarchs Gold summer college baseball team will get to defend their championship at next month's LineDrive Sportz NABF College World Series presented by BCSN in Toledo.
"We're always talking about going back and winning it again," said Cory Hornyak, a 2006 Genoa graduate who pitches and plays outfield for the Monarchs. "That would be a big thing for us to do. No one's ever done it, so we're hoping to be the first."
This year's NABF World Series will be held Aug. 6-9 at Ned Skeldon Stadium, Owens Community College, Bowman Park and the University of Toledo's Scott Park.
