Black Hawks open Toledo League play with win over Bedford

The Toledo Black Hawks opened their weekday action on Thursday at Bowman Park against Bedford with a bang. The Black hawks scored 4 runs before the first out of the game on their way to a six run first inning. After a scoreless 2nd and 3rd innings the Black Hawks put together several hits in the 4th inning to score three runs and added a single run in the fifth. John Fortunato (Case Western/Toledo) was on the hill for the Black Hawks and kept the Bedford hitters off balance for 4 solid innings of 1 hit ball. Jeff Davis (Owens CC/ Toledo) pitched a perfect 5th inning and the game was called due to the mercy rule in the 10-0 victory. Offensively the Black Hawks were led by Nick Broyles (Bluffton / Toledo), Tayler Glass ( Glen Oaks CC / Petersburg Mi) and Jay Yost ( Baldwin – Wallace / Tiffin) all with 2 RBI’s as the team amassed 12 hits. The victory raises the season record to 3-2 and the Black hawks will host the Canton terriers and Ohio Glaciers this weekend at Bowman.

First Win in Toledo League

The Toledo Hawks "Gold" squad started their midweek Toledo league action on a sweltering Tuesday night at Bowman Park on June 7.  Coach Ed Mouch got all of his players a couple of at-bats each, and three pitchers worked in a 7-2 win over the Genoa Rampage.

Hawks Gold Polishes Off Solid Weekend

Second Tri-State Sweep Begins Season

Toledo Hawks "Gold" made their opening weekend a 4-0 success by following their Saturday wins with a two-game sweep of the Shannon Fence team in Eastlake, Ohio.  An early four-run outburst in each game allowed the Hawks to take wing and fly to wins by a score of 5-2 in the opener, and hold on for a 6-5 triumph in the second game.

Hawks' Gold Spreads The Riches; Sweep Begins Season

The Toledo Hawks "Gold" squad opened their 2011 summer season in Chardon, Ohio with two games against the Chardon Blizzard.  Winning by scores of 8-1 and 5-1, the Gold Hawks followed a similar script in each game against the Blizzard, a new team for 2011 in the Tri-State Collegiate League.  Hawks pitching was solid, and the lineup produced 28 hits on the day as close games were broken wide open by late Hawk barrages.

Blacks Hawks Drop Opening Day Series

The Hawks struggled in the opening day series with Shannon Fence losing both game 4 – 1 and 5 – 1. The Black Hawks will face the Chardon Blizzards Sunday at 12:00 noon in a double header series.

Hawks travel to East Cleveland to begin the 2011 season.

The Toledo Black Hawks open with Shannon Fence at 1:00 PM, Saturday June 4, at Eastlake High School. In 2010 contest the Black Hawks split the season with Shannon, so these will definitely be tight games.

The 2010 Tri-State League and NABF College World Series Champion Gold Hawks will open the season at 1:00 PM, Saturday June 4, with a new team to the Tri-State league the Chardon Blizzard. Not much in known about the Blizzard except the team has been together since the players were 10 and they also have custom logo baseballs.

On Sunday the teams will flip locations and the Gold Hawks will play Shannon Fence at Eastlake High School and the Black Hawks will play the Blizzard. Start time is 12:00PM Sunday June 5, 2011.
