The Ohio Monarchs Gold captured their first NABF World Series title Monday morning in dramatic fashion. Casey Winckowski singled in Kyle O'Connell in the bottom of the ninth with 2 outs. The win captured the title over a 5 day period of baseball. The Gold seemed to play their best baseball of the season with timely hitting, good pitching, and excellent defense.
The Gold started Ben Kauder in the championship game against Long Island Astros and he proved to be up to the task. The Astros struck first in the top of the 2nd inning by scoring 3 runs. The Astros loaded the bases with a hit batter and 2 singles. They scored on a sacrifice fly, an error, and another single. In the bottom of the inning the Monarchs came back with a run when Cory Hornyak singled and Brandon McFarland followed with a double down the right field line that scored Hornyak.

Monarchs Gold continues it’s winning ways with another victory on Sunday August 10, 2008. The Monarchs team opened up the game with one run in the top of the first to take the early lead. Matt Kaighin started the game on the hill for the monarchs gold in the bottom of the first. He started the game by getting the Maryland Orioles lead-off hitter to fly out to the Monarch second basemen. He would then walk the next hitter on 4 pitches.
This would prove to be meaningless as he would later be thrown out on an attempted steal with the count at 1 and 1 on the Orioles three hitter.
After he was caught stealing Kaighin got the Orioles batter to fly out to right field to end the inning.
The second inning started with a triple by Cory Hornyak deep into right center field on a 1-2 count. He would later score on a single to center.
They would score once more this inning on a Brian Bilius double. This would give the monarchs a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the second.
