The 2008 Ohio Monarchs’ Gold Team, managed by Ed Mouch and coached by Dave Harris and Joe Munoz, will also be vying for a spot in the NABF World Series.

The Gold Team will include two members from Adrian College - Jake Cappelletty and Brian Bilius. Cappelletty hit a pair of home runs and knocked in 19 runners for the Bulldogs this season, while his teammate Bilius hit .348 with 1 home run and 11 RBIs.

Matt Rollins will join the team from Baldwin Wallace. Rollins hit .357 in 17 games for BW in ‘08, and looks to continue his reliable hitting as a member of the Monarchs.

Brett Howard had a .297 on-base percentage for the Bluffton University Beavers in 25 games this year. He’ll bring valuable 1st and 3rd base experience to the Gold squad.

The Monarchs will feature two players from the Heidelberg College baseball program. They are Brian Koehl, a pitcher, and Tony Pawlowicz, a 3rd baseman. Koehl struck out 29 in 39.1 innings of work, while Pawlowicz launched 3 homers and drove home 13 in 70 at bats.

The Monarchs also welcome two freshman players from Oberlin College this year. Ryan Mouch hit .296 in 81 plate appearances, and Ben Kauder hit 7 doubles and 4 triples this season.

Adam Yunker will join the Monarchs as well. He hit .281 in 32 at bats for the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University in 2008.

Casey Winckowski and Kevin Dunn are from Owens Community College. Winckowski is a pitcher, 3rd baseman and outfielder; Dunn is a pitcher and outfielder.

Kirk Salinski saw limited playing time with Cleveland State University this year but looks to show off his skills this summer in the Monarchs’ outfield.

There will be three additions to the Gold Team from Defiance College this season. They are Nate White, Matt Kaighin, and Tim Henneman. White pitched 14.1 innings primarily in relief and struck out 8. Kaighin compiled a .344 on-base percentage and 5 RBIs in 29 plate appearances. And Henneman served primarily as a relief pitcher, chalking up 17.2 innings and 10 strikeouts for the Yellow Jackets.

Kyle Ottaway, a catcher out of Central Michigan University, will be looking for a lot of playing time in his Monarchs uniform to sharpen his hitting and defensive skills this summer.

Tristen Peffley will be joining the Monarchs for the 2008 campaign. He had a double and 2 RBIs this spring for the University of Saint Francis. He also struck out 6 through 17 innings on the mound.

Two players from Youngstown State University round out the Gold Team. Cory Hornyak had 26 hits, 8 doubles, and 2 home runs in 2008, while Anthony Munoz scattered 17 hits, including a pair of doubles, 1 homerun and 9 RBIs.
