Monarchs Gold Win Big Over Tornadoes

The Monarchs Gold played a solid game against the Ohio Tonadoes winning 16 to 3 in 5 innings at Bowman field. The dominating pitching by Tim Corbey shut down the Tornadoes in the first three innings striking out 5 batters and allowing only two hits. Brian Koehl closed out the last two innings with 3 strikeouts allowing only one hit. The Tornados did get 3 unearned runs.


The Gold offense was hitting the ball hard accumulating 11 hits in five innings.  Lehman started the 1st inning off with a hard hit single. Adam Yunker walked and Bilius went to first on an error. Cappeletty then drilled a single scoring both Lehman and Yunker.  Winckowski then scored Bilius on a sacrifice fly to center and the Monarchs Gold had 3 runs in the first.


Four more runs were scored in the second after Mouch led off with shot up the middle for a single.  Lehman reached first on a fielder’s choice, Yunker and Bilius both walked and Cappeletty then hit a deep left field fly that the left fielder couldn’t hang onto allowing Lehman and Yunker to score. Cappeletty then scored on an RBI by Winckowski.


The Monarchs Gold scored 4 more runs in the 3rd inning and 5 more in the 4th. Offensive leaders for tonight’s game included Wickowski; 2 for 3 with a double, triple and 5 RBIs, Bilius; 2 for 3 with a single, triple, and 4 RBIs, Cappeletty; 2 for 3 with a single, double, and 4 RBIs; and Lehman who went 2 for 4 with a single, double and 1 RBI.
