The Ohio Monarchs Gold swept the Michigan Monarchs in two close competitive games at Bowman field Wednesday. Gold shutout Michigan both games winning the first game 3 to 0 and the second game 2 to 0 .The pitching was rock solid on both sides with Josh Stidham (6-0) pitching an awesome 5 1/3 innings for the Gold and holding the Michigan Monarchs to just one hit with 6 strikeouts, while Bret Kuebler came in to close the game in his usual fashion and secured the shutout. Michigan’s Ludwig threw a 4 hitter in his 5 innings of pitching.
Gold remained scoreless until the 4th inning when Brandon McFarland started the rally off with a one out walk. Cory Hornyak then slammed a single moving McFarland to second. After another out was made Eric Yunker went to first on third strike miss by Michigan’s catcher and loaded the bases. Jared King then put the Gold in the lead with a hard shot up the middle scoring both McFarland and Hornyak for a 2 RBI hit. Eric Yunker then stole 3rd base and after the throw missed the target Yunker scored for the third and final run. Bret Howard had the other two Gold hits ending with a 2 for 3 game.

In the second game, like the first, it was still a pitching battle between Gold’s Cory Hornyak and Michigan’s Vaughn. Hornyak shut down Michigan through 5 innings allowing only 3 hits and recording 5 strikeouts. Colin Meinzer came in and closed the game out only allowing 1 hit with two strikeouts keeping Michigan scoreless.

Vaughn kept the Gold team scoreless until the 6th inning when Jason Moulton (Boomer) started the inning off with a double down left field line. Tristen Peffley then laid down an excellent sacrifice bunt to move Moulton to third. Then with two outs and Moulton on third Adam Yunker hit a shot between 3rd and short to score Moulton for the go ahead run. Yunker then stole second and went to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Yunker then scored after Winckowski went to first on a shortstop error. Gold then held Michigan in the top of the 7th for the win.

Monarchs Gold extended their winning streak to 10 and improves their record to 18-6.
