Gold Team 3-0 in Toledo League

As in the Tuesday night contest a few days before, the Gold Hawks' pitching provided a solid performance in a 4-2 Thursday (June 16) victory over the Black Swamp at Bowman Park.  However, while the crafty slants of the Swamp lefty may have limited the overall Gold rush, the Hawks put enough points on the board with some timely swats.

On this night, Tyler Gibson (Bluffton/Sylvania) provided five innings of quality mound work in allowing only one second-inning run.  On the night, Gibson allowed four hits and a walk while striking out four.  He was relieved by Brian Koehl (Heidelberg/Sylvania); Koehl allowed a run to score on three hits in the sixth, but ultimately blackened the Swamp by then recording two K's in the sixth before striking out the side in the seventh.

The Gold Hawks scored one in the first, two in the second, and one in the fourth to achieve the winning margin.  As a team, the Hawks had only five total hits--but eight walks contributed to both the offensive output and the lack of rhythm at the plate.  Eric Yunker (Ohio Northern/Holland) and R.J. Rios (Adrian/Toledo) had doubles that both contributed to runs in the early innings.  Yunker also contributed a diving catch in center in the fourth inning.
