Monarchs Gold split with the Black Wolves after narrowly losing the first game 4 to 3 at Ousky Field Saturday. Gold came back in the second game winning 10 to 7. Matt Kaighan started on the mound in the first game holding the Wolves to 4 runs on 7 hits in the first five innings. Ben Kauder closed the last two innings not letting anyone on base.
Gold couldn’t rally enough hits to score more than the three runs on 5 hits. Cory Hornyak led the offense with a three run blast over the left field fence to give Gold their only 3 runs. Hornyak went 2 or 3 with 3 RBIs, Adam Yunker 2 for 3, and Casey Winckowski accounted for the other hit. In the second game the offense started up in the first inning with a single by Adam Yunker, base on error by Jake Cappeletti, and a walk by Casey Winckowski. Brandon McFarland then drilled a single scoring Yunker and Cappeletti. Winckowski later scored on a wild pitch.
Gold starts another rally in the 3rd after Val Helldobler crushes a home run over the left field fence. Adam Yunker then drills a double followed by a base on balls by Brian Bilius, and a hard hit single by Jake Cappeletti. Hornyak and Ben Kauder both add singles to the hit parade that resulted in 5 runs. Gold wins 10 to 7 with 10 hits and committed no errors in either game.
Colin Meinzer pitched the first three innings of the second game, Nate White pitched two innings, and Ben Kauder came in to close the 7th.
