Charlie WootenOregon, OH – Wednesday June 11 saw the Ohio Monarchs Blue Team defeat the Washington (PA) Blue Sox 8-4 in a non-league game. This season the Blue Team, formerly known as the Ohio Trojans, is competing in the National Amateur Baseball Federation Toledo League.

Caullan Owens from Kalamazoo Valley CC started the night on the mound for the Monarchs. In three innings of work, he allowed 3 runs, walked one, and struck out two.

Charlie Wooten from Bowling Green State University came on in the fourth inning and pitched for four complete innings. Wooten allowed only 4 base runners and no runs scored, he also walked one and struck out one. Greg Patterson of Youngstown State pitched an inning and a third allowing one run while walking two and striking out two. Cody McPherson entered the game in the ninth inning with two runners on base and got the last two outs without allowing a run.

Offensively for the Monarchs everybody on the team did their part in the game either by getting hits, drawing a walk or hitting a sacrifice fly. McPherson, Brad Timofeev, and Casey Kahsen all scored runs in the second inning with Kahsen batting in one with Chris Dudics bringing in the other two. The fourth inning saw more runs scored for the Monarchs by Timofeev, Dudics, Chris Pfund, and Phil Hettlinger. Pfund brought in one, Vasilios Mila scored two, and the fourth run was scored on a wild pitch by the Blue Sox. Dudics scored one more run in the sixth inning by bringing in Kahsen who had advanced to third because of a passed ball and a sacrifice fly.

Manager/Coach Steve Timofeev said, ” This was a big win for us, as the Blue Sox were favored to win the league... can't say enough about or Coaching staff and players.”
