Phil ReedOregon, OH – The Monarchs Blue Team faced off against Shannon Fence in a double-header on Sunday, June 15th. Shannon Fence is a team from Eastlake, Ohio which is east of Cleveland.

In game one the Monarchs scored first in the bottom of the first inning on a double from Phil Reed that brought in Ross Hartwig who had singled and then stole second base. Another run was added in the second inning when a ground ball out from Brad Timofeev scored Chris Pfund from third. The Monarchs third and final run of the first game was scored in the third inning on a solo home run from Reed.

Dan Parsons started the game on the mound for the Monarchs and pitched five innings allowing only one run, walking one and striking out three. Charlie Wooten pitched the final two innings allowing only one other run and pitched his way out of a seventh inning jam to preserve a 3-2 Monarchs win.

Game two saw the Monarchs start the same as in the first game by scoring a run in their half of the first inning. Yet again, Reed doubled in that first run by putting Hartwig across the plate. The fifth inning saw relief pitcher Shane Pfouts give up one run in the top of the inning followed by the Monarchs scoring four runs in the bottom half. Ryan Price led off the inning with a single, advancing to second on a bunt single from Scott Slygh, then stole third. Chris Pfund singled in Price from third moving Slygh up to second. A walk to Michael Nyitrai loaded the bases and another walk to Vasilios Mila brought in the second run that inning. A single by Reed brought in two more runs for the Monarchs. The hitting power continued in the sixth inning with three more runs, scored by Timofeev, Price, and Casey Kahsen. The RBI’s going to Price, Slygh, and Nyitrai.

Cody McPherson was the starting pitcher for game two, going four innings, allowing no runs, walking two, and striking out seven. Pfouts pitched two innings giving up the one run in the fifth, walking one and striking out five. Austin Ritson pitched the seventh giving up one run and striking out one.
