The Allegheny Athletics from the Pittsburg area were in town to take on the Black Hawks at Bowman field on Saturday 6/18. The Black Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one on a bomb from Matt Vannett (BGSU/ Bowling Green) that was good for 3 RBI’s.

On Tuesday night the Toledo Black Hawks defeated the visiting Black swamp team 16-3 at Bowman Park to push their record to 2-0 in the weekday league.

Black Hawks take 3 of 4 over the weekend

The Toledo Black Hawks opened their home schedule of the Tri State Collegiate League at Bowman Park this past weekend taking 3 of 4 from the visitors.

Saturday, in the first game, the Canton Terriers were in town and the held the Black Hawk bats in check as the home team was only able to register 3 hits in the 5-2 loss in the first game. Nick Rodesky (Bluffton / Bowling Green) only allowed 2 earned runs in 5 innings of work but the Black Hawks just could not get the offense going.

Black Hawks open Toledo League play with win over Bedford

The Toledo Black Hawks opened their weekday action on Thursday at Bowman Park against Bedford with a bang. The Black hawks scored 4 runs before the first out of the game on their way to a six run first inning. After a scoreless 2nd and 3rd innings the Black Hawks put together several hits in the 4th inning to score three runs and added a single run in the fifth. John Fortunato (Case Western/Toledo) was on the hill for the Black Hawks and kept the Bedford hitters off balance for 4 solid innings of 1 hit ball. Jeff Davis (Owens CC/ Toledo) pitched a perfect 5th inning and the game was called due to the mercy rule in the 10-0 victory. Offensively the Black Hawks were led by Nick Broyles (Bluffton / Toledo), Tayler Glass ( Glen Oaks CC / Petersburg Mi) and Jay Yost ( Baldwin – Wallace / Tiffin) all with 2 RBI’s as the team amassed 12 hits. The victory raises the season record to 3-2 and the Black hawks will host the Canton terriers and Ohio Glaciers this weekend at Bowman.
 
Blacks Hawks Drop Opening Day Series

The Hawks struggled in the opening day series with Shannon Fence losing both game 4 – 1 and 5 – 1. The Black Hawks will face the Chardon Blizzards Sunday at 12:00 noon in a double header series.
