The Black Hawks welcomed the Ravenna Arsenal on Saturday to the Clay High School field in Oregon Ohio for a twin bill in the Summer Collegiate League.
The day started out on a bright note as Jordan Schwerer ( NKU / Whitehouse, Oh) led off with a single and was moved to third on a double by Sam Fischer ( Adrian / Monclova, Oh) with no outs in the bottom of the first. Nick Broyles (Bluffton / Toledo) picked up an RBI with a ground out to first but Fischer was stranded at third to end the inning. The visitors struck back against Jake Rightnowar ( Trine / Toledo) with an unearned run and a solo home run to take a 2-1 lead after 4 innings of play which held up until the bottom of the 6th. The home team was able to score two runs in the bottom of the 6th as Colton Poncsak (Ohio Wesleyan / Bryan Oh) and Tayler Glass (Glen Oaks CC / Petersburg, Mi) reached base and scored on a miscue by the Ravenna defense and a wild pitch. Jay Yost (Baldwin Wallace / Tiffin Oh) came in to relieve Rightnowar in the top of the 6th with the bases loaded and no outs and worked magic to escape unscathed. After giving up a hit in the top of 7 proceeded to shut the visitors down and picked up the 3-2 win.
In the second game the visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning as Sam Fischer was pressed into service to start the game and walked 2 batters and gave up a couple hits to make the score 1-0 with the bases loaded when a 2-out error led to 2 additional runs for the visitors. Stephen Leskow (Defiance / Defiance) arrived to come in to pitch in the 2nd inning and did a good job allowing 2 unearned runs in the next 5 innings. In the meantime the offense chipped away at the visitors lead and eventually tied the score at 5 apiece after 6 innings of play. The visitors then put the game away with 4 runs in the top of the 7th to take the 9-5 win. The offense was led by Ryan Hotmer (Owens / Walbridge) who was 3/3 with 2 RBI.
